Daniel Jones Joins Anthony Richardson In Colts Quarterback Room

INDIANAPOLIS – The Colts have found their “quarterback competition” in veteran Daniel Jones.
In the revolving door of veteran quarterbacks in Indianapolis, it will be Jones following Gardner Minshew and Joe Flacco, with Anthony Richardson entering a third season.
Jones, the 2019 6th overall pick, had a sliver of success with the Giants, in winning a road playoff game during the 2022 season.
Outside of that though, it was rough for Jones in his time with the Giants.
He went 24-44-1 as a starter. Ironically, the biggest win of Jones’ career came in a January 2023 victory against the Colts, 38-10.
The Giants finally had enough of the 27-year-old Jones this past season, as he moved on to the Vikings for the rest of the 2024 campaign.
Style wise, even though the Colts said that wasn’t a priority, Jones does bring some dual-threat ability, albeit not to the level of Richardson.
To be clear, no realistic quarterback move for the Colts this offseason was going to offer an immense about of competition for Richardson, along with hoping that something could be there in the future, too.
That’s wishful thinking when it comes to re-tread quarterbacks.
In 2025, it will more be about how Richardson has responded to his first healthy NFL offseason.
And if the path for Richardson continues to be a rocky one, the Colts will be back in the serious quarterback market come 2026.
With Jones under contract, on a 1-year deal, reportedly around $14 million, the Colts have Richardson, Jones and Jason Bean under team control at QB for the 2025 campaign.
That price tag might seem like a lot, but it is the cost of doing quarterback business in today’s NFL.
